Garden City - Winter Camp 2021 - 13-15 August
Winter Camp kicked off on Friday the 13th with various meet ups on the journey to Wainui. Hilltop tavern being the last and most scenic.
With a fully registered camp it was a tight squeeze to allocate beds for the 80 or so attendees.
Kegs of Speights and Dark were soon flowing and the 1st of many top meals produced. Theme of the night was “Masks” although this didn’t kick in until the 11pm “ Masked Hash run”.
11pm and assembling in the main dining entertainment hall the pack set off. Thanks to the levels of inebriation many of the pack lost trail before even getting out of the rambling complex of rooms, hallways and stairways. Those who did make it out found trail up a slippery track and across and back to the other end of the Complex.
Back in the main hall we found Dagy questioning why we were not still at the Piss-stop. Apparently SSS was waiting up in the bush with various concoctions of Purple death and other delights. Despite Dagy’s urging no one actually found SSS and he eventually avoided hyperthermia by coming back to the hall where the PS concoctions were enjoyed in warmth and comfort.
Saturday morning and a gloriously sunny morning but it was a slow start in the dining hall. Grumblings of cold showers in the South wing. Dogs turned on one switch and then Tripod tracked down a hot water cylinder cupboard and another off switch. Reports filtering through of an unnamed hussie waking up with a black eye and sore tooth and no memory of what happened. Mystery solved when CC appeared wearing a mask.
Run set for 11ish. But then the weather turned Dunkirk and run start delayed until midday with committee discussions on how to proceed in the pouring rain. Eventually we assembled and off we went. Stuff up early in the run and only 6 hashers made it to Piss-stop one. The main pack headed off down the road towards the beach, totally unaware we had missed the loop to PS1. Once again SSS, manning a PS and he has lost the pack. Well 6 hashers appearing is an improvement on none.
PS 2 was far more successful. A plentiful supply of Speights and other cans plus some 12% beer that according to He’ll Keep was “horrible”. A small number of runners including RV, Macwatt and Kahluis headed up a track into the hills ignoring calls to return to base.
Back at the ranch and it was a very entertaining circle kicked off by Garden City’s Klingon, Mole and Dagy. Birdtable (NZGM) joined in the fun and finally it was fines from the floor and lost property. Mole presented with an impressive drinking receptacle for a milestone with Garden City. He was also reunited with his long lost Mole Junior.
Lunch and rest time followed. Well drinks time for many.
Into the evening and the Hash band of FFFF, Dagy, Bolyx, Mimi, 007 and Xerox warmed up the crowd as the main band were setting up. Dinner was catered and plentiful and the band started after this. Lots of dancing into the am hours. 10pm was the little known but long standing RLD, Jabberwocky and IQ’s crackers and salsa dip run. This included an attempt on the most hashers crowded into a shower room record.
Sunday and another glorious morning, but this time it stayed glorious. Breakfast and cleaning up. Then a short recovery run in sunshine with circle led by Lipsplitter. And Birdtable.
Some good downdown songs kicked off by Revs, TLS and Fire N Da Ho.
Mole objected to being referred to as Big Mole - helpful suggestions of Fat fuck Mole and Obese Mole. His objections centred around having recently lost 15kg which, he noted, had been found by FnFFFF.
Downdowns for all the Winter Camp virgins and Lisa was named as “Snatch”. Stompa confirmed as Stompa ( Fucking Stompa in polite company).
