Wellington Ladies 2500th - 7-9 March 2025

Wellington Ladies celebrated their 2500th run on the weekend of 7-9 March 2025.

FRIDAY

The weekend kicked off on Friday night with a memorial run, of sorts, at the Wilton Bowling Club -  location of the first run the WLH3 ever did on 29 November 1978. Two runs were set (and one was made up on the spot – short walkers) a runnera and a walker.

On the walker trail was our patron CHIPS, who is still doing full walking trails after 46 years, (and she sets a fair few too). The trails meandered through the Otari-Wiltons Bush to a piss-stop (aka the end of the run) and fines session – well you know how they go ….. The on-home was at the Wilton Bowling club who gave us a great feed and RINGO got ONE PINT in trouble for being a bit later home than his leave pass allowed!

SATURDAY Run

Convening at the Johnsonville Memorial Park at 11am. This run was a mixture of streets, bush and, of course in Wellington, hills! There were three runs, the long run about 7.5 km’s, the walk about 5.5km and the short walkers still with stairs and hills at about 3.5km. There were a few spills and a bit of blood (SPROGGY)

Upon arriving at the piss stop, the hares had organized a game of cricket for us to watch whilst we sank some tubes.

Meanwhile we waited and waited and waited for DFL’s  Mini muff and DT to arrive so we could finally have the circle, well led by Ladies RA Cisko Kid.

Finally, the fines session started with various culprits named and shamed.

We had a yummy individually labelled and carefully constructed lunch (and there was heaps for the big boys). A few more tubes and just as lunch finished the heavens open up – so, we all trooped either home, for a well-earned rest and to get your glad rags on OR to the Johnsonville club to get primed for the evening.

SATURDAY evening

Saturday evening was hosted at the Johnsonville bowling club and the theme for the evening was “what were you doing in 1978”. Some of the notable costumes were

·         TRIPOD – seventies super model

·         CISO KID – elegant evening gown

·         CHIPS - a real runner

·         FELLOFFA – heavily pregnant

·         RIGHT – school boy

·         UNLISTED – a girl guide

Check out the snappies on out facebook page … (1) Wellington Ladies H3 | Facebook.

The club served fantastic spread – chicken, roast beef, little round pastry things that you put gravy in (yes, ONE PINT they are called Yorkshire puddings),Ham, vege and a dessert to die for – little meringues with a chocolate centers and cream and lots of fresh fruit.

The highlight of the evening though had to be the band “Quite Some Company” (Check out their Facebook page) and they come with groupies (CLAWED and SOME MOTHERS). They played to the crowd with their 1970’s and 1980’s music. We danced and danced and danced until at the end there were only a handful of hashers left – including the couple whose wedding anniversary it was LUNA & ECLIPSE (45 years).

SUNDAY – the wreckcovery run

As is traditional, the recovery run was set by GM’s. In this case three GM’s. An exNZGM SOME MOTHERS, the current NZGM GATEY and the WLH3 GM IQ20. It was decided that there should be two trails, runners and walkers. We agreed at the start that setting the trails should take us about 20 minutes and then back for a beer.

GATEY set a 20-minute trail for the runners up over one hill and back to the Johnsonville club. But MOTHERS & IQ didn’t listen. 40 minutes later they decided to put an on home – about 15 minutes’ walk away from the On home. In our defense it was all flat!

After nipping in for a quick ale MOTHERS decided that the trail was a bit long, so he shot out and shortened it (whilst GATEY & IQ kept drinking - who was feeling guilty now? As part of his contrition SOME MOTHERS brought out his impression of Frank Spencer a weak attempt to justify his actions and deflect blame. (See the NZH3 On On facebook page for the video).

I remain the lesser GM and absolved of guilt.

A great weekend and thanks to the committee and everyone who stood up and played their part in making this a really successful event. And for those that didn’t your turn next!
