Organisers were members of the Wellington Hash. ABC, Tripod, High Heels, He’ll Keep, Porkbox, DT and Hash Brown, with trail setting and other assistance from Shortplanx and Xerox.
For the committee the weekend started off on the Thursday with a trailer load of food, craft beer and wine delivered to the Camp chiller and kitchen. Followed by a night at the Waiotapu Tavern watching a local pool competition. Friday morning was the big buy up in Rotorua of more food, cider and beers. Then into the camp and welcoming 8 hashers, keen for a 3 night stay. There were also hash gatherings in Taupo and Rotorua at Xerox’s place.
1pm Saturday was the main gate opening and Hashers flooded in throughout the afternoon, with banners and balloons for Perky’s 70th birthday centre of attention.
Saturday evening had the drinks and food flowing with entertainment aplenty with a multitude of Hash musicians from all over the motu. The South Islanders also had a large Jenga game plus another game involving the throwing of ball string things at railings – ladder ball ?. Both these games were put to very good use on both Saturday and Sunday nights. Late night savouries and mouse traps proved very popular from head chef Tripod.
Sunday was the main Hash run with Shortplanx heading off early with bags of sawdust accompanied by Dupch and Budgie. Xerox was not in a fit state for 12km of trail checking.
At 11am the run started after instructions from Shortplanx. Unsurprisingly the vast majority of Hashers did the walk and short walk. All trails led to Kerosene Creek where the WHHH barbeque trailer Tammy awaited with sizzling sausages and drinks for lunch. Swimming in the hot springs was also popular and then a 2km walk back to camp.
The Circle was directed by NZGM Birdtable with assistance from her secret RA’s Hornie, FckingFeefifofum and Lipsplitter. Then a multitude of fines from the floor and a rousing variety of down down songs.
Then into the evening with dinner, drinks and Cocktail party. Games music and into the small hours some strange game that involved Hashers swapping clothes.
Monday was the usual wrap up with a hearty breakfast followed by the recovery run round the campsite. This featured the last chance to catch Covid with 50 hashers cramming into one cabin for a cosy circle !!
We also had updates on Interhash Queenstown from Bluevain and NZ Nash Hash from Toyboy.
Volunteers were called for for Nomad 2023 with none forthcoming.
However Likka offered himself and Daisy for 2024 which would be the 20th anniversary of the first Nomad that the 2 of them organised.
As a post script it appears that this Nomad was indeed a super spreader Covid event. Birdtable had counted 36 hashers positive by Friday and hosted a Zoom circle on the Saturday. Feefifofum’s estimate was 2/3.
But as Mimi commented, “feeling crap for a few days but then good to go for Matariki “
