Winter Camp - Aug 5-7th
What a fantastic weekend with the cosy number of 41ish mostly south islanders known for their hospitality and putting on a bloody good pissup!
Friday night the beer showed up on Emdefs trailer and hashers started dribbling in from the pub crawls down from Christchurch!
Festivities hurriedly began as it usually does with hashmen drinking beer at the keg outside and the Harriet's getting rather shit faced playing drinking games inside! STD our chef rustled up mouse traps to slow down the eventual consequences of such activities.
A tropical light breeze blew known from my hazey childhood memory as a Norwester which blew its arse off for an hour causing a power black out at 9pm "the drinking games continued" a small glitch! so we all thought but the south has a few old macracappa trees that just happen to fall onto power lines.
The next morning still no power! So STDs competent calm manner got Toyboy out of bed in his camper and told him we are using your gas and your BBQ to cook breaky! It was noted Toyboy nearly didn't bring his camper as he was told there was surplus accommodation!
As predicted and there were many predictions over the weekend the rain followed the Norwester and a shit tonne fell overnight leaving the hare to recognize his run plans to a nice gentle amble through farm land past the old homestead and back to the youth camp for the circle and a great lunch prepared yet again without power!
By this time the event organizers were thinking how the fuck were they were going to prepare a main meal on Saturday evening on Toyboys BBQ!
Well south islanders are resilient creatures and RLDs family in Geraldine happen to know Trev who has a neighbor called Trev and a cousin called Derek! So a trailer loaded with a large BBQ and generator turned up at the camp as a contingency! After all this kerfuffle the bloody power goes back on around 2pm much to a sigh of relief from Dingaling and STD!
Can't remember allot about the circle as I was in my cot having a nap after being kept up till 3am singing songs with Daggy on guitar and MiMi pouring dark Sambuccas down my neck! However I did here Daggy in the circle interjecting on more than one occasion!
After the circle the whisky or wiskey club settled in to the end room for a serious session while the rest of us dusted of our hang overs played games in the hall and just having a good chit chat and socializing that we all do so well at in the Hash!
A feast was served by STD and helpers then the theme night began "nursery Rhyme" fancy dress judged by Ding!
Nursery Rhymes theme winners were MiMi as Little Miss Muffet & Pannikin Cider as the Old Man Who Bumped His Head (its raining, its pouring).
NZ GM Bird Table ran the recovery run circle on Sunday with a heap of deserving fines gathered over the wknd! One in particular not to be scribed.
another successful although a liitle stressful Winter Camp for the organisers no covid cases reported and a big THANKYOU!
